Some advantages of this type of forwarding:
  • unrestricted service on Sundays and holidays
  • road tax abatement up to 100%
  • bigger transport volumes with less truck units and drivers

Combined forwarding is typically represented by transporting of goods by a single means of transport (usually road vehicle). Major part of the run is made by railway, inland waterways or sea without actually handling of cargo, whereas the initial collection or final distribution of goods is usually made by road.

Combined forwarding can be divided into the following two transport systems:

  • unaccompanied combined forwarding, i.e. transport made by big-capacity containers, trailers or swap bodies
  • accompanied combined forwarding (so called Ro-La transport), i.e. transport of road vehicles (including crew) by trains consisting of special low-platform railway carriages.
